Rusyns – Lost Homes

CEE PhotoFund of Humenne, Slovakia, has organized “Rusyns – Lost Homes,” a photo documentary project about the Rusyns displaced from eastern Slovakia when the Starina Dam was built in 1980.

Rusyns were displaced from the villages of Starina, Dara, Ruske, Smolnik, Velka Polana, Ostruznica and Zvala.

Included in the project are archival family photographs and films, which show how life used to be in the Starina valley, as well as materials documenting the Rusyns’ expatriation and assimilation in the years that followed.

The exhibit premiered at Sariska Galeria in Presov (16 March – 8 May 2006), and traveled to Vihorlatske Muzeum in Humenne (21 May - 30 June 2006). Most recently it was at Matica slovenska in Snina (2 July - 31 August 2006).

A catalogue (94 pages, paperback, 14x13cm) can be ordered for 10 euro (including shipping) from
CEE PhotoFund.
